Guest fees pay for food and alcohol.
In 2007, our guest-fee policy saved house members $432 each.
Here's how that happened:
Last summer, we spent an average of $101/person, per week. (Without our weekly Costco run, that figure would easily be doubled.) Guest fees paid down, on average, $72/person, leaving house members to cover an average of $29 per weekend. This is not for cans of beer and hot dogs; this is for whole pigs and sushi and paella and cannolis and Prosecco and a full bar. Here's what else we ate during the '07 summer.
Every Sunday morning, the weekend total (including all receipts) is posted, listing the balance divided among house members present that weekend. These monies will be collected twice over the course of the summer.
Essentially, we eat and drink like Romans while guests pick up 70% of the tab. Nice, huh?
